Start an incredible adventure and board your flight at Stellenbosch (or Caledon) airfield for a direct flight into your overnight
adventure in the soul filling Tankwa Karoo. Hosted at Stonehenge farm, the original site of Afrika Burn in South Africa.
Flights are conducted in a Cessna 210 or Cessna 206 single engine piston, 6 seater, CAA Type-Certified aircraft by a
qualified and type-rated pilot
Experience stunning vistas as we fly low level over the Cape Fold mountains, over Cedarberg mountains and watch the
landscape change to wide open desert plains as we fly directly to the Tankwa Tented Camp private airstrip.

Arrival and Welcome drink at the Airstrip
Land at the remote Tankwa airstrip and be met by the team on the ground with an ice cold beverage, and celebrate being in
the remote, desolate but soul filling part of the Karoo.

Stroll from the aircraft and airstrip and settle into your exclusive, private camp.
Our cozy tents, pitched under the reassuring shelter of a Bedouin canopy, offer all the comforts and luxurious amenities you
need for a restful night’s sleep in a setting that is as remote and private as it gets.
As you arrive, you’ll be greeted by the welcoming warmth of a crackling fire, not only providing a delightful atmosphere but
also serving as a gathering point for evening festivities.
Rustic shower and ablution facilities provide the full suite of amenities for a basic but comfortable night in the amazing
desolation of the Tankwa.

Serene sundowners
If wind and weather allows, don a compulsory tie (a symbolic respect for nature) and board our safari vehicle to take us up
a remote Koppie of the farm. Here, the vast expanse of the arid landscape seems to stretch into infinity, creating a profound sense of isolation from the bustling world beyond.
The silence is nearly absolute, broken only by the whispers of the wind through the sparse vegetation and the occasional call of a solitary bird. The stillness is so complete that you can almost hear the beating of your own heart, a reminder of your connection to the natural world.
The rugged terrain, with its softly rolling formations, amplifies the feeling of seclusion. You might find yourself alone with the horizon, where the sky meets the earth in a seamless, uninterrupted line, painting breathtaking oranges during sunrise the sunset.
Sip a cold beverage as you contemplate the world, your own place in it and hear the stories of the farm and of the ancient landscape that we have the privilege to immerse ourselves in.
As the sun touches the horizon, pause in absolute silence for the minutes it takes for the sun to dip below the horizon : a moment of mindful reflection and peace.
Walk the Labyrinth – be moved

Feel the profound energy contained within the labyrinth: As the golden sunset gracefully transitions into twilight, we move to the Labyrinth, a permanent installation in the old Afrika Burn site, designed as a personal memorial to a lost loved one.
The path through the labyrinth meanders, taking us through a gentle ascent and subsequent descent. With each step, we delve deeper into a meditative exploration of this sacred space.
As the darkness gathers, a fire dancer gracefully moves to the rhythms of the night, infusing the surroundings with even more spiritual resonance. Their dance is a mesmerizing spectacle, casting enchanting shadows on the labyrinth’s intricate paths.

In this tranquil setting, the labyrinth becomes a place of reflection. It’s an experience that invites you to connect with the
energies of the earth and sky, providing a space for contemplation and a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of all things
Option 1 – Braai and gathering around the fire at our exclusive tented camp
After the serene and moving experiences of the sunset and labyrinth walk, return to our exclusive tented camp and gather round the fire while our hosts prepare a simply but hearty meal of braaied meat and pap and sauce with plenty of cold beverages available.
Sit outside and gaze at the sparkling stars with the space, solitude and silence of the desert enveloping you and socialise
late into the night with colleagues that become friends with a new shared experience of the desert.
Option 2 – Party at the Tankwa Tented Camp „Onverklaar bar“
The Onverklaar Bar, an iconic hub for travelers, bikers, and Afrika Burners, is a living testament to countless unforgettable stories waiting to be shared.
Inside, its walls are adorned with eclectic and rustic memorabilia, each piece with a story of its own, adding a unique character to the place. The soft lighting in the bar creates a cozy and welcoming atmosphere, inviting patrons to settle in and make memories.
If we are lucky a talented musician might be in the house to serenade us. Alternatively, the music playing sets the mood, and spontaneous sing-alongs become the soundtrack of the evening.
The night may feature mesmerizing fire dancing performances. The dancer moves gracefully, weaving her way through the flickering flames, casting enchanting shadows and adding an element of mystique to the night.
The central gathering point becomes the roaring fire, around which friends and strangers alike come together to celebrate.
Conversations and laughter mix with the clinking of glasses, creating a lively and communal atmosphere. Dancing feet find their rhythm, and the night transitions into a spontaneous dance floor.
